SPORTS

I ran track in school and was a champion high jumper.( Bermuda record holder) I started playing softball at the Berkeley and while there, played in the league with a team of school girls. We were about 14 to 16 years old. I played for many years with the Somerset Bluebirds (SCC) I captained the team for years. Before the league folded, the Club did not have a team, so several players, including coach and manager Rudy Minors became a part of the Eaglettes. I played on the Big Blue Ma- chine for many years. Though we had had a couple of tours to play abroad, the first big Competition representing Bermuda was in Connecticut when we played at the World Tournament. We played in several CAST tournaments ( Bahamas, Belize, Bermuda and Jamaica ) and became the champions defeating Belize here at home. We ruled the tournaments for quite some time. I was vice-captain of our Big Blue Machine and then served as Captain at the World Tournament in Taiwan. I started my journey at Centre field and then came in to shortstop where I played most of my career. We played in world Tournaments, PanAm games, CAC games and CAST Tournaments. I was a member and vice- captain of the winning gold medal team at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Medellin, Columbia and with that team, was inducted in the Sports Hall of Fame.

EDUCATION

I went to West End School and then The Berkeley Institute (Green House). I studied Mathematics and Chemistry (dual Undergraduate Degree) at Wilberforce University. Studied Chemistry in Graduate school at Kent State University until the Kent State massacre when students were killed by National Guardsmen. I then did a Master’s in Education at Rutgers University, I taught Mathematics and was the Head of Maths at Warwick Secondary School.
After living in Canada, I returned and taught Mathematics at CedarBridge Academy before moving on to the Department of Education where I served as a Mathematics Officer. Later I be- came a Permanent Secretary, served in several Ministries including Education before retiring. I have returned to the classroom after retirement to teach for a year at both Clearwater and Berkeley as they were in dire need of a qualified Math Teacher.
While teaching at Warwick Secondary, I served as President of the ABUT and Vice President of the Caribbean Union of Teachers.
